    • Good work! Sounds like a busy time, which definitely makes it harder to stay on track food wise. Think of the money you save by not getting an “actual” drink when you go out…
      And yay for horses being home soon!

      • Thank you! We’ve stocked up on protein bars, and better snack options for being on the go rather than stopping to go out to eat. I’m going to try and do some body weight exercises at stops to keep myself moving around through the drive.

    After not working out for a while and getting back into it, I noticed my muscles have been extra tight. That, along with the air quality being terrible, made me decide to stay inside today and work on stretches. I did a couple of short yoga sessions and attempted pilates.

    What disciplines do y’all ride?

    • I ride mostly western. But I was trying out my new saddle today. It’s a contoured bareback pad with stirrups. It is so comfortable, but it’s going to take some getting used to not having a saddle horn for mounting and unmounting LOL!

      • Mounting would be a challenge – hopefully your horse stands well! I love bareback riding, and it’s such a great workout too!

    • I ride western. We live on a small ranch… We go to cowboy church… I’m married to a team roper… So I have a roping saddle … but I recently got a barrel saddle… I’m not going to lie… I love it… it’s so light. I wanted something to just throw and play in…

      • Is that the kind of cowboy church where you get to take your horse? I heard of one once that takes place in an arena on horseback! Do you do any roping yourself? My engagement gift to my husband was a roping saddle – he’s not much of a rider but wanted something sturdy. I love my barrel saddle! Light and comfortable. Much nicer than a show saddle.

        • We have several events in our arena. But church is in a sale ring of an auction. Yes, I started team roping at age 40 and enjoy being on our all girls ranch rodeo team.

    Here is a 30 day workout challenge. When you finish, start again and add more reps so that you end up with 100 situps, 2 minute plank and 200 squats!! Think of how great shape you will be in!

    • I use that trick too sometimes – brushing your teeth to help get over cravings haha. I’m kind of the opposite – I want chocolate and sweets when I’m relaxed.

    • I can relate! It’s hard when you are competitive – we are told the we should be our own competition, which is great, but we have to find that in-between you are talking about. Not as a resting place where we become stagnant, but as a step towards winning the competition against yester-us lol

      • EXACTLY!!! Lol. It’s okay to not be breaking records everyday, but keep doing stuff everyday to keep getting stronger and breaking personal records in the long run!

    Yay, I made it the whole day without sugar!! I took a long walk with my horse. I’ll start riding more when it finally starts to cool down. I plan on doing weights and cardio tomorrow.

    If you haven’t read the blog about spring cleaning… you should. As a 50 year old cowgirl illness and poor health is a fact of life if you don’t take control! My favorite from the article was…. if you do not make the time for exercise, you will have to make time for illness.

      • Listen I have rheumatoid arthritis and when I was eating a lot of sugar it was BAD! Since I have restricted sugar I am off my medicine and my joints are working again. Now that we are doing this challenge they are even better. I have said it and I will say it again… Sugar is the DEVIL

        • That is great news! Yes, since I started my 50’s I am feeling it in trying to do my workouts and everything. My goal is to lose about 35 pounds. I know I will feel much better.

    Here is a great outdoor workout or you can do it inside. The idea is to work your way down to 1. So early on you can do as many as you can and then by the end of the challenge be doing each exercise so that you have completed 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 You would be doing each 10 times but with less reps each time.
